The no-makeup, make up look has definitely been the topic of discussion for quite some time now, and we don’t expect it to be canceled anytime soon.
However don’t think that because the guy’s and gal’s are opting for more natural looks, means were putting an end to the more extravagant looks. They are and will always be here to stay, but it’s nothing like switching up to those fresh face vibes.
What exactly is the no makeup, makeup look?
If you were wondering…., Yes it is exactly how it sounds. With this sexy, yet simple look, you’re still wearing makeup but its less noticeable, and a bit more natural looking. The thought of this trend embarks a new way of how people are truly feeling towards their own beauty which in my opinion is a great thing. Meaning they are viewing themselves as someone who doesn’t need to do to much to feel seen, to feel loved, and be likable.
They’re suspecting that this trend was started from a few different reasons. For one due to COVID-19 which forced us all to stay in home to finally embrace who we are. On the other hand, they are also saying that women are trying to prove a point, point being that putting on “tons of makeup doesn’t make a woman confident”. At this point I feel the ladies are learning to not care to much, and learning to do what’s best for them!
Overall it’s not about cutting out the makeup completely but still being able to enhance our features in a much more simple way. And that allows you to save a bit of money, plus be able to experiment.
The no-makeup look is perfect for beginners say, Fiance brown; Licensed esthetician.
“When I first began wearing make-up it was in esthetician school, I was so nervous about it that I avoided it and didn’t put much effort into learning the true fundamentals of makeup”.
“I than began doing simpler looks later down the line to really get in the hang of what I actually was doing”.

Certainly beginners entering into the make-up world will find themselves overwhelmed, and feared to be judged if their makeup doesn’t look like the amazing artist on Instagram, or Tik-tok. Therefore this style type will offer benefits in the end for them to learn about the other aspects of make-up.
I mean, lets be real here it takes a lot of time to finally get that perfect wing, learn about the right colors for eyeshadows, and etc.
Wondering what exact products you’ll need? I got you! By connecting with a few specialist we’ve came up with a list of essential tools and products.
Steps to follow (best no-makeup look tips):
1. A solid skincare routine
Skincare is a priority, for any makeup look for that matter. Keeping up with the fundamentals for your skin will allow for makeup to slay on your skin ten times better than ever. As well as allowing your skincare products to absorb deeper into the skin. Recommendations for keeping up with your skin; would to use a cleanser, serum, toner, moisturizer, face mask, all relating to your skin type. There are other ways to understand your skin more by going to an esthetician or dermatologist depending on how severe your skin may be!
2. Moisturizer | Sunscreen
For your moisturizer go for a one that’s light enough to not cause clumps but still provides the long lasting moisture you need. For sunscreen you should go for the same thing, great thing about this new time were in is we have moisturizers with SPF, which is the best duo!
3. Primer
The controversy of whether you need primer or moisturizer should no longer be a question because, you definitely need both. Primer is here to help your makeup sit in place, and to help with smoothening out the skins appearance. There are various forms of primers to try, though your best bet for this look, would be an illuminate primer. This type of primer provides an radiant natural glow, the glow that we all love,
4. Choose your foundation (optional)
You may ask well shouldn’t I use powder foundation to provide lighter coverage since it is a look that should require less? When it comes to the No-makeup MAKE-UP LOOK, it’s best to stick with liquid because working with liquid foundation provides a smooth skin-like base to provide that natural skin-like texture.
On the other hand you could skip foundation all together, but If you happen to go for the foundation, its important to go layer by layer, until you get the desirable coverage you need.
Substitues for foundation:
- Tinted moisturizer
- BB cream
- CC cream
- Concealer
Here are two examples using foundation and no foundation(experiment);
5. Concealer & Setting powder
The key to it all is concealer, especially if you are using it as an alternative to foundation or to cover up scars or blemishes. Usually for concealer for those days you want to brighten up areas, or darken areas you want to go 1-2 shades lighter or 1-2 shades darker. However this depends on if it’s for contouring or highlighting, though if you’re going to use it as a foundation you’ll need your exact skin color.
For the no-makeup, makeup look if you want to add a bit more pizzaz you’ll want to add light coverage for both highlight and light contouring, which highlight would be more prominent to use.
(Optional) Apply powder to areas that you’ve applied your concealer or foundation. If you are on the oilier side, it is recommended!
A recommendation when applying concealer under eyes is to use a sponge or the tip of your ring finger to provide a natural effect. Did you know applying makeup with fingers helps achieve a even more blended complexion? Although it can get a bit messy its worth it!
6. BLUSH
Now we are getting to the fun stuff, everyone’s favorite part of this look “Blush”! We all have natural tones within our skin, some of us have warmer tones, while others have cooler tones. And the thing with blush is that you can try out different colors and even try alternatives such as using lipstick.
The purpose of blush is to bring back color into your skin, because with only the use of foundation it can give you a unnatural flat look. Have you ever noticed someone who’s natural skin seems to be glowy and dewy also known as the “flush”?
That is due to the healthy blood flow circulation found in the body and cheeks. Cream blush is the recommended choice for the “No make up look” to again achieve the natural look.
7. Eyelashes
Let’s get into the lashes, definitely a step you don’t want to skip. Naturally a lash line that’s full and dark will give someone a youthful yet feminine appearance. Furthermore Lashes makes the eyes bigger, and helps the glossiness in your eyes to truly shine bright. In fact you have four options to chose when it comes to lashes. You can either opt for mascara, strips, a lash lift or lash extensions, most certainly the choice is yours. Just keep it natural if you go for the extensions which all the girls love!
Tip: Use an eye liner to open and widen your eyes even more!
8. Eyebrows & Eyeshadow
We’ve been in the era of thick brows for some time now, and I am so here for it. Many are going for the brow lamination look, this is a more brushed up look though it’s very versatile so many styles can be created.
Brow lamination is here to give your brows more structure, to tame the unruly hairs that wont lay down, and add smoothness.
First thing you should do is get your brows shaped to your liking, then follow up with a brow lamination treatment, go for a brow gel, or brow tinted gel. To then fill the brows in you could get them tinted, use a brow pencil or pomade with a color shade to match.
On to Eyeshadow, we obviously want to keep things at minimal here, but a little shimmer wont hurt nobody. Choose a cream based eyeshadow with a touch of shimmer close to your skin tone.
9. Lips
We are tossing the bright colors, and throwing on the more nude and neutral colors, the pastels, coral pinks, and the browns. Go for a lipstick that matches your skin tone in a way, a plus is to add either a lip gloss or glitter gloss to top it off!
