The summer is definitely back and the heat is hotter than ever, and either your skin is glowing amazingly well or you look like you’ve been working out in the gym all day! Though not only does the heat amp up sebum within your skin, it amps up the not so friendly or easier to handle problems, that we all should avoid as much as possible.
But, I know what you’re probably thinking, it’s summer you want to enjoy the sunny days, lay out on the warm sand with your bum out. Watching the waves roll by, complimented with a nice cold mimosa, and fruit which honestly sounds lovely right now.
However, it’s important to know the risk of what to much sun exposure can do to your skin, after all this is what comes with being a human being on planet earth, it’s all a balance.
Here is what to much sun exposure can do:
- Increase acne
- Cause bacteria build up in your products
- Friction with clothing, due to activated sweat glands
- Pre-cancerous lesions
- Pre-mature wrinkles
- Dark spots
Sooo what would you prefer? Glowwwy, healthy, soft skin or would you rather risk looking older than you actually are, sun burns that can take years to go away, or even skin cancer? I’ll say I’d go with the glowwy, healthy, soft skin!
Here are some tips to help you keep up with your skin this summer:
- Sunscreen
By this time everyone and their mom should know the impact sunscreen has on our skin. Luckily the new age of sunscreen has truly changed the game.
We know longer have to worry about the thick sunscreens, annoying white cast, or drying out our skin. There is now a huge variety to choose from for your skin type.
You know those days when you’re craving not so healthy foods, or when you stay up all night from having a good time, maybe even had a few drinks. Then the next day you notice how terrible your skin looks, how lack of luster it feels…These are signs of your skin being dehydrated.
And if you didn’t know UV-rays from the sun can dehydrate your skin, leaving the skin with low water content, dry patches, loss of collagen, decrease in essential oils and more.
This is due to the rays getting into the epidermis, and causing damage to the skins dna. So its key to always stay hydrated with lots of fruits, veggies, water, oh and wear your sunscreen!!
A tip :If you are someone who works out a lot or wanting to make sure you are drinking enough water, try out Tal stainless steel water bottle. It keeps your water cold literally for 24 hr and your drink hot for 24 hr. The best gift I bought myself.
3. Keep your skincare routine light.
You may have heard the argument on if it’s needed to change your routine during the different seasons. The answer honestly depends on your skin type of course, but still keep it light.
What should you swap out?
- Try swapping out your thick moisturizer for a light moisturizer
- Switch out your creamy cleanser to a hydrating gel cleanser (Unless you have dry skin!)
4. Always keep vitamin C, in any if not all of your products.
No matter if it’s in your moisturizer, face mask, or serum. I will say, vitamin c in serum form is highly recommended. Especially if its in the form of ascorbic acid, this form of vitamin c helps penetrate the skin deeper, so you get the full benefits.
Vitamin C has so many properties, it helps smoothen wrinkles, dark spots, protect against sun damage, reduces signs and not to mention it is a great antioxidant.
6. Keep your skin moisturized
I know when we think of summer we mainly think of how sweaty and oily our skin will get Thing is there are those who’s skin will actually become drier. As with the advice of staying hydrated, you also want to use a moisturizer that keeps your skin balanced with hydrating ingredients.
5. Less make up, the better your skin will be.
Summer marks the perfect time for your skin to have a total reset, sort of like during the colder seasons when were not wearing sandals, so we take a break from getting nail polish on our toes. Allow your skin to breathe and soak up the needed vitamin d it needs while it’s here.
On the other end wearing to much make-up excessively during the hotter months will cause your makeup to melt and not last, increased sweat, increased oil production, and more. Try out the no make up look this summer for a calmer look!
6. Exfoliation!!!
Exfoliation will always be needed, it is the only way your products will seep into your skin with grace. But, during the warmer months you may need to exfoliate a bit more.
A warm environment will increase oil production, which will then cause congested clogged pores… and acne!!
